Poets Unite
If you write poems, we want them for our blog. Send your poetry to our editor at listenup@yahoo.com and she’ll get them on our site. If we get enough original works, we may be able to do a poetry edition of Listen Up! but we’ll have to see how that goes.
In the meantime, here’s a poem from one of our staff members — but you have to guess which one. Leave your guess in the comments. The one who guesses right gets ONE MILLION DOLLARS! Just kidding. But … there may be a Listen Up! T-shirt in it for you.
The Rose, the Mirror, and the Wine
I once held a rose
Whose pedals were sweet and ripe
But it made my hand bleed
For it’s stem was filled with thorns
I once viewed a mirror
Made of the finest glass and framed with the brightest jewels
But the jewels were missing and the glass was broken
For someone had defaced it
I once sipped a spirit
That tasted sweet and cool
But as it went down my throat
My chest caved and my heart stopped
The rose, the mirror, and the wine
All of them connected, though not at all related
For they’re the symbols of my unrequited love
And what it’s done to me
